Update to iPhone 3.0 software now!
Jun 19, 2009
The free iPhone 3.0 software has been released and by now you should be familiar with the update process, but if you're not we're going to help you out. Of course you want those new features like copy-and-paste, voice memos, a landscape keyboard, and tons more. So here's the lowdown. See that image above, click it and you'll be taken to Apple's iPhone software update website.
Step 1: Using your computer, open up iTunes 8.2. If you don't have iTunes or the latest version of it, you can download it here. Now once it's open, connect your iPhone to the computer using the USB plug that came with it.
Step 2: Now that it is open, select your iPhone under the Devices list on the left-hand side.
Step 3: On the iPhone summary page, there will be a button labeled "Check for Update". Click it.
Step 4: Make sure to hit yes to all prompts to install this update. You may need to backup your phone before doing so. So be prepared to wait and keep the phone connected at all times.
That's it! If you have any issues doing it through this method and would like to download the firmware directly from Apple, here's a few helpful links to get your iPhone 3.0 software download.
